About Me

Hi everyone and welcome to bakingdairyfree.com

I have always had a love for baking, ever since I was a young child baking sponge cakes in my grandmother’s kitchen. However, a few years ago my baking world was turned upside down.

My daughter, who was 5 at the time, and always shared my baking passion was suddenly diagnosed as intolerant to not only milk but soya too. We loved baking together on a weekly basis, but suddenly we couldn’t use any of my well loved recipes. It was like starting again from scratch. Probably like you, I trawled the internet for help, but found looking for recipes unclear and confusing. Even allergy sites didn’t make it clear which were Dairy and Soya free recipes.

Therefore, after 3 years of re-learning, experimenting, asking experts and online research I am finally in a place where I can bake, pretty much anything with my Daughter again, and I’m ready to share what I have learnt. From our favourite recipes to our favourite products.

All the recipes on this site avoid replacing Milk with Soya as my daughter is allergic to both. However, I was informed by my specialist that 40% of children with a milk allergy also have a Soya allergy so it really is worth cutting out both. I have also discovered over the past 3 years, the importance of a balanced diet and only cutting milk and soya as other ingredients are essential to her diet. This means most of my recipes do contain other allergens such as gluten, eggs and nuts. However, I have marked the recipes that are free of these allergens, so those of you with more allergies can see which ones might be suitable for you.

I have to say that I would not have got this far if it weren’t for the amazing support of my mother, who you will see I give full credit for some of the recipes we have come up with. Including her amazing scones and pancakes, where I was really struggling. Thanks Mum! I couldn’t do it without you!
